PROJECT: Questlove DJ Brand Identity for Okayplayer
OBJECTIVE: Develop a distinct and lasting brand identity for Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, the iconic drummer and joint frontman for The Roots.
BACKGROUND: Launched by Questlove in 1999, Okayplayer emerged as the pioneering progressive urban music platform. Renowned globally, it offers a diverse spectrum of groundbreaking music, acting as a bridge to multifaceted cultures and communities. Well-established as the gold standard in music media, Okayplayer has always been at the vanguard of music, arts, sports, and beyond.
STRATEGY:
Brand Identity: Embarked on a mission to encapsulate Questlove's essence, emphasizing his legacy with The Roots and his individual prowess.
Graphic Design: Employed cutting-edge design methodologies to reflect Questlove's unique style and influence in the music industry.
CREATIVE:
Crafted a dynamic icon by blending an inverted color scheme of headphones atop Questlove's renowned silhouette. This iconic imagery was further accentuated with the standalone '?uestlove' text box.
Ensured adaptability and coherence, enabling the branding to function both collectively and separately across diverse scales.
OUTCOME:
The resulting brand identity didn't merely serve its immediate purpose but became a symbol recognized globally.
